This lovely little cookbook, written by a native-born German woman who married a U.S. Serviceman, is packed full of homey and comforting German recipes that will make you want to lace up that costume you bought just for your yearly Oktoberfest celebrations.

The author does an excellent job translating traditional German household cuisine into something an American cook could easily recreate, provides the reader with a short history of Heidelberg, sprinkles in a generous helping of German sayings (translated into English).  The 280 recipes are thoroughly woven into the traditional flavors of German cuisine without being Americanized in any way except the basic ingredients and measurements.  Truly a wonderful cookbook and cultural treasure!
